TASK 2....GF Smith Paper

I had never heard of the company GF Smith so as a starting point I researched it on the internet. I then was able to see exactly how this British company started in Hull, East Yorkshire over 100 years ago. I wanted my poster as a response to the brief tie in with the company.

I photographed my final piece again when suspended, from a range of angles. I'm really please with how it has turned out, and glad that everything went to plan. Well pretty much everything anyway.

I wanted to look at it from an unusual angle, probably the angle people would never see it from.

For my final 3d structure, for task 1 I have responded to the brief by creating my piece using a series on 2d paper cuts. I wanted my final idea to be different from a standard 3d structure, so I constructed my piece with an idea of creating a visually interesting piece with the element of 3d form. However I still had the idea if repeat in mind and I used my developmental pieces to as well as my research in my response to the brief.

Helen Musselwhite - Paper LAYERS

I found her work on the internet and was immediately drawn to how she has use layers of paper to create  these beautiful 3d forms. Furthermore I really like the way she had used paper to add a typography element to her work. For me personally I prefer her work which is done in purely white paper because I think that when in colour it takes away from the design. Below is my favourite piece of her work, it shows her skills to a high quality and you can see that there has a been a lot of time effort and thought gone into her work.

LAYERED LETTERS - Bianca Chang

I came across Bianca Chang's work on the internet when I was researching artist who use layers of paper to create 3D objects. Her work combines both paper craft and typography. I love how precise the paper has been placed and cut.  This letter V below has been made out of 180 hand-cut layers of paper. What I find interesting about her work is that the paper is cut into and the important bit is the 'negative space' which forms in this case the letters.

BUTTERFLY - development

I've been developing my ideas and now I have began looking at layering up flat paper, to created a 3d effect. From looking at the repeated patterns on the wings of butterflies I've noticed that the shapes which form the pattern are quite simplistic. I cut basic shapes out of the paper, leaving behind the Here I have photographed my pieces of layering the paper , I particularly like the was the shadows cast in the images.
