Philip Treacy...BUTTERFLY and FLORAL hats

I found the work of Philip Treacy when I was researching butterfly patterns. They are pretty impressive hats, but you don't see many people walking down the street in them. I love how its like an explosion of colour and pattern being displayed proud of place on somebodies head. They so extravagant  and eye catching but they still manage to have the elegance and beauty of the natural form.

My trip to Millennium Gallery and Winter Gardens

On route in to Uni I took a detour though the Millennium Gallery and Winter Gardens to take some photographs for my primary research. I was looking at both the natural forms in the gardens and the man-made sculptures. Below this sculpture in particular court my eye, its base on a floral design however its made from cutlery.

Float like a BUTTERFLY, sting like a bee

I wanted to photograph butterflies for my primary research and as hard as this sounds, in freezing cold February, I was able to exactly what I set out to do. I went home to Manchester and visited the Manchester Museum, where they have a collection of butterflies on show. There I saw a range of beautiful species of butterflies from all over the world. Here are some of my photographs taken at the museum.

There were also moths included in the collection, they were HUGE! To me they are just not as elegant as butterflies, you straight away notice the colour difference in the wings. I took some photographs as a comparison to the butterflies.

NATURE...beauty is in the eye of the beholder

To truly see how amazing nature is, all you have to do is look around outside. We are literally surrounded by beautiful natural forms, and I think they are definitely taken for granted. For my primary research I began by photographing repeating patterns in flowers, below are a few examples.

Nature is the art of God.

PAPER paper paper paper paper paper paper... Peter Callesen

I came across the work of Peter Callesen when i was researching paper sculptures. I think his work is amazing, I especially love how you can see where the pieces started off as a simple 2d flat surface and blossomed into these 3d works of art. Peter Callesen himself said that his his paper work has been based around and exploration of the relationship between two and three dimensionality.

REPEAT repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat...developing my ideas

I've been further developing my ideas whilst looking in to fractal forms in nature. I have especially been looking at flowers. Here are some photos of my developmental outcomes.
